A writer for Dogster, Sassafrass Lowrey, recently took my Beginner Agility class with her dog Charlotte. No big whup, right? However, Charlotte is dog reactive and had never been able to take a group class before.
Sassafrass has written an article about her experience, and Charlotte’s success, for Dogster:
http://www.dogster.com/lifestyle/dog-training-reactive-behavior-tips-classes
The article is meant for people with reactive dogs, but there are some great things for all dog owners to remember (especially #6: Don’t compare your dog to others in class).
Please note that I can not always accommodate reactive dogs in my agility classes. Sassafrass has a considerable amount of experience as a trainer and we communicated beforehand about precautions and expectations. Big thanks to the other dogs in the class: Gritz, Optimus, Olive and Aries.
